PROJECT K-5

Scott’s Blazer Project started on 6/02.  The first thing we did was remove the original body and swap on a rust free ‘91 body that sat on a shelf at a local junk yard for 8 years. $400 and a tow truck and we were off on a project that I hope will yield a like new Blazer that I will enjoy for years to come.

IN MEMORY OF                          JERRY V. LESTER                        A TRAGIC TALE OF WASTED YOUTH WHO PASSED BEFORE HIS TIME..................R.I.P.

Week 1: She is a little rusty. After a little wrenching and cutting, the body is ready for removal. Having 2 forklifts made it ALMOST easy.

Week 2: “New” Body arrives on a tow truck. We constructed a crate to move it around on. Sandblasting and Ospho then etching primer, epoxy primer, polyurethane primer, and base color in the jambs.

Front view shows fresh paint on a now very clean firewall.

Special Thanks to my many freinds and some total strangers who helped make this happen........

Week 4: Rusty bolts SUCK! ORD rear flip, new everthing in front end, new brakes all around, Eaton lockers, 3.73 gears, all joints, greasable bushings and ORD shackles, new shocks, new springs, new shafts, poly body bushings with all new mount hardware, new alternator, new starter, new radiator, new Optima battery, new a/c condensor and heater core. OUCH!!!!  I have cut more bolts with a torch than I could get off with an impact. I bought a new THUNDER Gun from Ingersoll/Rand which helped but it was slow going.

Week 8: Body back on and it fired back up. Moves on its own. Notice the new silver in door jambs. Built up weak spots in rust free floor with West Systems epoxy and Carbon Fiber cloth. I’m scared of rust.

Week 10: Second week in body shop. Doors cut in and rehung, roof and top seal area painted, body aligned and fenders back on, body now straight as an arrow and almost ready for new color. (2002 Corvette Quicksilver Metallic) Wheels are at the powdercoater and the tires are on the way.        (Mickey T Classic 2’s in 15x10 powdercoated gloss black with 35x 12.5 Radial Claws) Ordered the top from Can-Back and the bumpers from a local Hummer fabricator.
